How can you tell if the mower blade is in balance on the MAG-1000?
First read all of instructions that came with your MAG-1000. To tell if a blade is in balance mount it on the balancer as outlined in the instructions. Turn the blade so that it is in a horizontal position. One end of the blade should point towards 3 o'clock and the other end at 9 o'clock. Now, let go of the blade and you will see the heavy end rotate toward the floor. The amount that the blade is out-of-balance is seen by how fast it rotates toward the ground. If the blade remains horizontal or moves very very slowly, it is in-balance. When balancing circular saws or any other circular object, use a marker to mark a place on the object so that you can more easily see the motion.

How do you check if a mower blade is bent?
The gage rod on the balancer is for checking if mower blades are bent. Mount the mower blade on the balancer, and rotate it so that one end is pointing upward and the other downward. Adjust the gage rod so that the rounded end touches the underside of the blade edge very close to the tip of the edge. Now rotate the blade 180 degrees to the other end. If there is a deviate of more than 3/8 inch between the two ends, the blade must be replaced. NEVER attempt to straighten a mower blade they are tempered, and attempts at straightening will cause micro-fractures in the steel that will make it brittle. This could cause the mower blade to shatter on impact with a rock.

Can a mower blade with a star shaped mounting hole be balanced with the MAG-1000?

How should the balancer be stored, when not in use?
Taking care of the MAG-1000 is very important. It is the difference between it lasting 5 years or 40 years. Whenever you are finished using the MAG-1000 push the magnet back so that the accurate grease slide is protected from dust and dirt. Never try to clean the grease slide, or re-grease. An engineered grease is applied to the balancer, and is good for the life of the balancer if it is cared for properly. To give the balancer extra protection when not in use, place a small plastic bag over the balancer. The MAG-1000 blade balancer can be used or stored in any temperature.
