Principal of operation - (common to all Magna-Matic balancers)
Magna-Matic balancers have arbors which rotate on anti-friction ball bearings on a horizontal axis. The MAG-1000, uses a magnet to hold the part concentrically in place. A magnet is located on a slide over the arbor. The arbor concentrically locates the part to be balanced, and magnet holds the part on the arbor.

The MAG-7000, 7002, & 7003 etc do not use magnets. They are specifically designed for a specific size taper. The part is held on the balancer by gently sliding the taper of the part onto the taper of the balancer. The matching tapers create a concentric fit.

When the part is mounted on the balancer, and is permitted to rotate on its own, the force of gravity will act upon the part rotating the heavy section of the part to the 6 o'clock position. This is the area of the part, which material needs to be removed.
